I second that leaders must prioritize managing risk on a daily basis to be successful in their jobs. If you are struggling with mitigating risk, follow these best practices and you will be on your way toward success with very minimal risk.

In your organization, leaders should ensure that everyone plays an equal part in managing risk, from new to seasoned employees. First-timers can avoid many heartaches and save the company thousands to even millions of dollars. 

When hiring, ensure the new employee is well trained, learns all processes, and does not deviate in any circumstances. When a risk occurs, coach timely in a one-on-one setting and keep all your team members accountable. Monitor your employees and if you have repeated offenders who fail to follow processes and procedures, take strong measures by following your company guidelines and involving your human resources unit. Mitigating risk should not be taken lightly.

Mitigate risk effectively by creating a risk management culture where everyone cares

To mitigate risk effectively, leadership needs to adhere to all protocols and be present to coach and monitor daily processes. Lack of management will result in more losses in every area. To avoid this, ensure to have a backup plan for out-of-office days, vacation, and holidays. 

Daily reporting will show where the challenges are and must be addressed timely. Monitor progress and ensure everyone is doing the right thing. Create a culture of integrity across all channels where everyone is following the correct protocols and cares about the organizational structure. Empower your team, ask for volunteers, and create risk champions who will monitor more challenging areas. In addition, this also gives you a chance to see who has leadership qualities for advancement.
