It was the 6th of September and the air was beginning to grow colder. It was Little Tobias’s birthday and he had just been handed the most beautiful gift: a Pokémon egg. His eyes sparkled with excitement; he held the egg delicately, feeling the smooth, warm surface beneath his fingertips. Around him, the lively chatter of his cousins filled the air, each of them cradling their newly hatched Pokémon. Tadbulb’s soft glow, Skitty’s playful purrs, and Azurill’s cheerful bouncing made the room joyful. Little Tobias felt a pang of impatience and envy as his egg remained stubborn.
Days turned into weeks, and every evening, Little Tobias would sit by his bedroom window, the moon casting a gentle light over his hopeful face. He cradled the egg in his arms, singing lullabies and sharing stories from a book written by Elder Hop, the Pokémon Daycare owner of Azalea Town, and his grandfather. Elder Hop’s book was filled with wisdom about caring for Pokémon eggs, and Little Tobias followed its instructions with unwavering dedication. As Little Tobias wanted to become a Pokémon breeder in the future, it was the perfect opportunity to gain experience.
Yet, despite his efforts, the egg remained unchanged. Little Tobias’s cousins played outside with their Pokémon; their laughter and playful screams echoed throughout the garden in the backyard, and Tobias began to feel more lonely. Frustration gnawed at him. He couldn’t help but feel left out. Every day he grew more envious of his cousins’ joy and the bond they shared with their new companions. Little Tobias only wanted one thing – his Pokémon egg to hatch.
One cosmic night, Little Tobias had a dream that filled him with hope. In his dream, the egg finally hatched and a bright light filled his room. But just as he was about to see what Pokémon was inside, he woke up . The disappointment was crushing. Anger and frustration overwhelmed him, bubbling to the surface and draining the little bit of patience he had left. He stormed out of the house, clutching the egg tightly.
The night was cool and quiet as Little Tobias made his way to the nearby lake. It was across from their house, and he was feeling a little grumpy all because of his incomplete dream. The water glistened under the moonlight, the sound of gentle waves lapping at the shore was the only noise for miles. Little Tobias sat by the lake, pulling Elder Hop’s book from his bag. He reread the passages, the words feeling both comforting and mocking in his frustration.
“To hasten the hatching of a Pokémon egg, you need to sing to it with your heart and care for it like a delicate snowflake,” the book advised. He took a deep breath, feeling the sting of tears in his eyes. Little Tobias began to sing softly, his voice trembling with emotion. He sang lullabies and read stories, trying to warm the egg with his own body heat, but as the hours ticked by, nothing happened. He had been singing for a while now.

Despair settled over Little Tobias like a heavy blanket. “If you won’t hatch tonight, I will leave you here and never come back!” he whispered fiercely to the egg. He sang one last song, and poured all his love into the words, but still, the egg remained unchanged. With tears streaming down his face, Little Tobias left the egg by the shore and began the long walk back home.
Halfway home, guilt gnawed at him. How could he abandon something so precious? He wondered. Panic surged through him, and he turned on his heel, sprinting back to the lake. His heart pounding in his chest, fear gripping him tighter with each step as the guilt took over his senses. When he arrived at the lake, he witnessed something horrifying. The egg was gone. The spot where he had left it was empty, and a wave of terror washed over him.
Little Tobias ran home, tears streaming down his face, blurring his vision. He burst through the door, sobbing uncontrollably. His parents were in the kitchen, along with a familiar figure: Elder Hop. In Elder Hop’s hands was something he owned — the egg — safe and sound. Relief and shame intertwined in Little Tobias’s chest as he ran to Elder Hop, throwing his arms around the egg.
“I’m so sorry,” Little Tobias choked out between sobs. “I promise I’ll never leave you again.”
Elder Hop smiled kindly and handed Little Tobias a small bag of Oran berries. “These are for your Pokémon when it hatches,” he said gently. Little Tobias nodded, clutching the egg close to his chest, promising never to let it leave his sight again.
Over the next few days, Little Tobias resumed his nightly rituals with renewed determination. He sang to the egg, read it stories, and kept it warm while feeling a deeper connection to the unborn Pokémon inside. His patience and dedication were renewed after getting his egg back from Elder Hop; even his cousins playing with their Pokémon outside didn’t deter him anymore.
One afternoon, exhausted from his efforts, Little Tobias fell asleep under the shade of a large oak tree in the backyard. He had another dream, this time more vivid. He saw the egg in his mind, and it finally cracked open, revealing a Venonat. The little purple bug Pokémon looked at Little Tobias with bright, curious eyes and nuzzled against his cheek. Warmth and happiness filled Little Tobias, and he hugged the Venonat tightly.
He awoke with a start, his dream lingering like a sweet melody. Disappointment threatened to overwhelm him momentarily, but then he noticed something beside him. The egg was no longer an egg; it had hatched. Looking up at him with those same bright, curious eyes, was the Venonat from his dream!
Little Tobias’s heart soared. He scooped up the Venonat, tears of joy streaming down his face. “You’re real,” he whispered, holding the Venonat close. The little Pokémon jumped happily, then snuggled against Little Tobias.
With Venonat in his arms, Little Tobias ran back to the house, his heart bursting with happiness. He beamed with pride as he introduced his new best friend, Venonat, to everyone. The bond between them was strong, forged through patience, perseverance, and unwavering love. Together, Little Tobias and Venonat were ready to take on countless adventures, and their friendship was proof of their hope, patience, and dedication. He wondered what he would name his new best friend.
